TARGET GROUP
Full-time students who completed at least first year of study in degree programmes of Law. Preference will be given to those involved in Legal Clinics. A minimum B2 level of English language competence is required (CEFR).
STUDY CREDITS (ECTS)
Successful completion of the course can be awarded with 3 credits according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). Credits will be awarded on the basis of participation in classes, completing the virtual component and preparing a presentation during the physical component based on the team work self-work and lectures. A Transcript of Records will be issued by the coordinating institution. In order to include the credits in the curriculum at the home institution, participants will have to have signed an Erasmus+Learning Agreement before the start of the BIP (including the virtual component),
ON-LINE LEARNING ENVIROMENT
The online component of the course will be hosted via MS Teams, the collaborative online learning platform of the Nicolaus Copernicus University. Participants need to have a stable internet connection, a computer, a headset, and a webcam. Sessions will be held synchronously (‘live’) in the CET time zone, beginning at 3 pm CET. Each online module will consist of lectures and a workshop based on teamworking

PROGRAMME OVERVIEW
The main aim of the course is to develop legal communication skills and foster student collaboration and teamwork in an international context. By participation in the course, students gain a deepened understanding of the legal conditions that exist in European countries. By working on topics relevant to migrants and problems which they face in countries of residence, students will develop their ability in team working. They will also have a chance to familiarise themselves with laws and the legal traditions of their countries and in that way effectively increase their capabilities in using English in practice. The course is intended to bring together mainly students involved in legal clinics at universities.
The overall workload is 75 hours. Students will be required to attend 15 hours of online synchronous sessions, which will be followed by 30 physical hours, held at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń (Poland). Another 30 hours is planned for self-study and teamwork, using, for example, well-established decisions of European and national courts, reading and analysing literature and preparation for the final discussion.
In order to successfully complete the course, students will have to: participate actively in online classes, overview cases to study, prepare legal solutions and information, and participate actively in the physical component.
DEATILED COURSE CONTENT
15 April – 14 May 2024: online module
An on-line module will consist of theoretical and practical part. During each encounter the specifics of each clinic will be presented, as well as introduction to the topic migrant crisis and human rights. Introduction will be needed to conduct a discourse by working in small groups and engaging in collaborative discussions. The main aim of the workshop is to develop skills allowing critical assessment of the jurisprudence of national and supra-national courts through the lens of a comparative view.
Classes will require pre-class preparation and there will also be follow-up assignments. Students will become familiar with the issues to be discussed a week before each class, and they will be provided with reading materials. All learning resources will be available on NCU MS Teams platform as well as synchronous sessions will be held on the mentioned platform. The virtual component is aimed at preparing students for practical, workshop-format classes that will follow in a physical module.

1 July – 5 July 2024: physical module at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń
The on-campus module will take the format of plenary sessions and group workshop sessions aimed at developing practical skills. In their international teams, students will deliver a presentation of the results of their work. This component will upskill students in challenge- based learning approach. The additional sessions consisted of workshops (“Communication in the group”, “Alternative Dispute Resolution”, “Equity, Diversity and Inclusivity”) are dedicated to student enhancement in the field of democratic values, multicultural competences.
